A business that sells a physical product of its own making or design, under its own brand name.
- A clothing line, under its own label
- Candle, soap and skincare makers
- Handmade bags, jewelry and leather goods
- Hot sauce, salsa, baked goods and other packaged food under its own brand
- Coffee roasters
- Artists selling their own original work
What doesn’t
These are good businesses and they keep their listing and their category. They just aren’t what this badge marks.
- Resale of other brandsVintage sellers, boutiques stocking other labels, and any reseller. The brand on the product is someone else's. This is the largest group we turn down.
- ServicesRepair, salons, consulting, cleaning — however local, and however good. There is no product with their name on it.
- Custom work on a customer's designA print shop putting someone else's logo on a shirt is providing a service. If the same shop also sells its own designed line, that line qualifies and they can apply on that basis.
- Restaurants and food serviceA restaurant serving meals is Food & Dining. A restaurant selling its own bottled sauce on shelves is a brand for that product.
